Social media has been a major factor in informing Canadians of their eating habits during the pandemic, and the younger generation specifically is more motivated to choose plant-based products.
The popularity of incorporating vegan meat in menus has been rising, as they are appearing on menus 1320% more since the pandemic began, as suggested by a report from Tastewise.
Although Toronto is amongst the world’s top 10 cities for vegan neighborhoods, people still feel that the options to go plant-based are too limited.
Many fast-food chains and restaurants have actively started to introduce 100% plant-based meat to their menus.
New restaurants like Tsuchi cafe and Gia are offering innovative menus to avoid a lack of diversity in the scene, and have been a great hit.
1. Pups are welcome: Pet adoption was on the rise during the pandemic so people now want to dine with their pets.
2. Sports Bars: After the pandemic, lots of people are looking for shared experience such as cheering at a bar with others.
3. Wifi with your coffee: As more people are working from home, the search for “cafes with wifi” have been increasing, as more and more cafes were banning wifi pre-pandemic.
4. Dining any time: Because many are working from home anytime, they also want to dine anytime. Searches for “good for breakfast” and “open late night” have been increasing.
5. No more waiting: As people start to dine out again, people are looking for online waitlists because they don’t want to sacrifice convenience and do not want to wait.
6. Ghost Kitchens: As delivery apps showed a rise during the pandemic, the concept of delivery only restaurants have been in the rise.
